Dover

Dover is a suburban gem, physically marked by the presence of the mighty Charles River and its magnificent landscape. A semi-rural domain, Dover is friendly, laidback, and surprisingly adept at maintaining its environment. It has one of the finest school systems in the Boston area; and the Dover-Sherborn Regional High School ranked third best in the Bostonís Best Schools 2012 study prepared annually by Boston Magazine.*

With one traffic light in the entire town, and no numbered routes, Dover has approximately 5,000 residents, and a land area of 15.41 square miles. It is a peaceful and bucolic, cycling and kayaking/canoeing mecca, about 16 miles from downtown Boston. But Dover is only four minutes from the north side to more-urban Wellesley shopping and public transportation; and a few minutes north is the Needham train to Boston. Dover may look like the quintessential country town, but it is fueled by the second highest median household income in the state (after Weston).***

The average list price of a Dover home sold in the last year is $ 1,093,518,** but the range is broad with offerings in 2012 from about $ 475,000 to $ 6,700.000; and the styles include classic colonials, antiques or modern, to fine contemporaries, in secluded areas or in emerging developments. Land, lushly forested and open meadow, is key, with one or two-acre zoning being average. Fully one-third of Doverís 15 square-miles is held in conservation. Horse properties abound and occasionally are marketed.

Resources include The Dover Café and Deli for breakfast or lunch, and the Dover Market which cuts one of the best steaks in the western suburbs, the spring Fishing Derby on Channing Pond for children, and summer concerts on the Town Common. Doverites like it quiet, and are happy to leave behind traffic congestion and noise when they cross into town from neighboring communities.
